Gathering: Practice Peacemaking and Justice
On Thursday, the youth were involved in Practice Peacemaking Day at the Convention Center. The day began with a dynamic worship where they reaffirmed their own baptism and then that of their friends. Throughout the day there were different workshops for them to take in, including the 100 Wells Challenge, ELCA Malaria Campaign, Anti-bullying and many more.
Friday (today), we were scheduled to “Practice Justice” by painting a school in the community. Unfortunately, we had torrential rain and travel to our site would have been unsafe. Instead, we headed to the Convention Center to watch a documentary on Hurricane Katrina and listen to first hand accounts from survivors. The teens were left with a lot to think about from the speakers who told stories spreading God’s love by loving our neighbors even when they’re different.
Tomorrow we will be with the DE-MD Synod and Bishop Herz-Lane to “Practice Discipleship”. We send our love and prayers.
